A small, remote valley in the Ötztal Alps in the heart of Tyrol – that is the Platzertal. It is one of the few extensive high valleys in Austria with large areas of moor and wetland. Here the Alps can still be experienced in their original form. But the valley is acutely threatened – by the planned construction of a pumped storage plant and the associated destruction.
This illustrated book presents the extraordinary landscape and the rich and special flora and fauna in a variety of photographs. Informative texts from well-known specialists,
Various voices on the construction of the power plant and a contribution from Almerin and Almer complement the photographic documentation of this extraordinary habitat and its inhabitants.
Over the course of a year and a half, nature photographer Sebastian Frölich visited the remote high valley at an altitude of over 2,000 meters many times to document the natural treasures and thus make a contribution to protecting the valley and the local mountains. The resulting images show both the magnificent landscape and macroscopically small details of various animal and plant species – and encourage individual exploration and the necessary protection of mountain nature. show more
