Fitness training for climate protectors – WWF Blog

The WWF starts the klimafit challenge, a participation campaign for everyone who wants to help protect the climate.

You might think that climate protection is a matter for the boss. And of course our governments, companies and NGOs are responsible for ensuring that we achieve our climate protection goals. But not just her. We should all ask ourselves: How can we ensure a future suitable for our grandchildren? Everyone has responsibility. And so do I… and you. Because every contribution counts to curb global warming and resource consumption! And we can do that in everyday life, each one for themselves and in the community.

Climate protection as a joint task

I have at WWF talked to my colleagues about ways in which we can conserve resources CO2-Save emissions in everyday life. Do I have to restrict myself completely now? Can I still do this and that in good conscience? What's the point of riding my bike, why should I buy local food or turn off the computer monitor during my lunch break? It's not that difficult.

In fact, we can easily live in a more climate-friendly way. And we are also doing something good for our health and our own wallet. The climate fit challenge “fit for the future with climate fit” shows us how this works.

Climate-fit: Achieve more together

The climate fit challenge shows how much Co2 can be saved with small behavioral changes in everyday life if we pull together. We show what we can do with very simple measures from various areas, such as switching from car to car Public transport or the bike and more frequent cooking without animal products. Our goal: In four weeks we want to work with you to produce 150 tons CO2 save!

This corresponds to emissions over a distance of 750,000 car (petrol) kilometers driven. That's almost 19 orbits of the equator. An ambitious goal for four weeks. But with your help, we can achieve this climate-fit challenge.

Change habits

If all participants incorporated their measures into their everyday lives for a year after the challenge, that would be 1,800 tons CO2 -Savings. This roughly corresponds to the annual emissions generated by living and heating in 1,500 two-person households in old apartment buildings.

The campaign can be an introduction to trying something different in everyday life and doing something good for the climate. How about a vegan Sunday brunch tradition, for example? Or a newly founded carpool for your daily commute to work? You decide for yourself whether and how often per week you want to eat a vegetarian or vegan diet, or whether you cycle to work instead of driving. You can find tips on how to become fit for the future on our website WWF Challenge.
