Simply without: 7 tips for shopping in the unpackaged store
There are now unpackaged shops in many cities where you can buy plastic-free fruit, vegetables, pasta and many other things. For some people, however, the concept is still new and unfamiliar. But don't be shy! With our tips from the “Easy Unpacked” guide, packaging-free shopping is very relaxed and guaranteed to be sustainable.
1. Plan enough timeFor your first unpackaged purchase, you should allow enough time to get used to the new concept. First of all, you can only buy a few products. If it suits you, you can also take time for a coffee in the store and a chat with the staff. |
2. Shop in advanceMany unpackaged products have a long shelf life and can be purchased in advance. Some unpackaged stores also sell goods in large containers (e.g. 5 kg of pasta). At home, you can then transfer them into smaller containers for everyday use – assuming you have space to store the supply. |
3. Pre-order goods onlineSome unpackaged stores offer to pre-order goods (online) and have them filled and packaged for collection or delivery. You can find information about this on the respective homepage. |
4. Introduce an unpackaged shopping dayIf it fits into your everyday life, a fixed unpackaged shopping day is a great idea to get into a routine and stick to it. |
5. Establish purchasing groupsTo save travel and time, you can set up shopping groups with neighbors or friends. |
6. Change habitsGrocery shopping is a matter of habit. Shopping in the unpackaged store works a little differently than usual – but it quickly becomes routine. Be open to small changes in your everyday life. |
7. Take a more relaxed approach to everythingYou don’t have to live the perfect zero-waste life straight away – every step counts! |
